This Privacy Policy explains how AussiePay (“the website”, “we”, “us”) handles personal information collected from visitors. Who is responsible for your data
The entity responsible for the processing of personal information collected via this website is the operator of AussiePay. Contact details for the responsible party are published in the site imprint and can also be reached through the contact form on this website.
What information we collect
AussiePay is an editorial website. We do not require an account to read our guides, and we do not process payments. The personal information we do collect falls into a small number of categories:
- Technical information collected automatically — your IP address (typically truncated for analytics), user-agent string, referring URL, pages visited on our site, timestamps of your visit, and approximate location derived from your IP address at country or state level.
- Cookies and similar technologies — small text files placed on your device that store preferences (such as your cookie-consent choice) and enable analytics. Details are set out in our separate Cookies notice.
- Information you submit voluntarily — anything you type into the contact form, including your name and email address if you provide them, and the contents of your message.
We do not collect financial account information, government identifiers, health data, or other sensitive information as defined by section 6 of the Privacy Act. We do not knowingly collect information from individuals under the age of 18.
Legal basis and purposes
We collect and use the personal information described above for the following purposes:
- To operate and secure the website — serving pages, preventing abuse, and diagnosing technical faults.
- To measure audience and improve content — understanding which guides are read, how visitors arrive, and where our coverage has gaps, through aggregated analytics.
- To respond to enquiries — replying to messages sent via the contact form.
- To comply with legal obligations — retaining records where Australian law requires us to do so.
Where the Australian Privacy Principles require your consent (for example, for non-essential cookies), we ask for it before setting the relevant technologies.
Disclosure to third parties
We do not sell personal information. We may share limited technical data with the following categories of service providers, each of whom acts on our instructions and under contractual privacy obligations:
- Hosting and content-delivery providers that operate the servers on which AussiePay runs.
- Analytics providers that produce aggregated usage statistics.
- Anti-abuse and security providers that detect malicious traffic.
Some of these providers may be located outside Australia. Where personal information is transferred overseas, we take reasonable steps to ensure that the overseas recipient handles the information in a way consistent with the Australian Privacy Principles.
How long we keep data
We retain server logs for a short operational period (typically a matter of weeks) and analytics data in aggregated, non-identifying form. Messages submitted through the contact form are retained for as long as is necessary to respond to the enquiry and, where relevant, to keep a record for legal or complaint-handling purposes.
Your rights under the Australian Privacy Principles
You have the right to:
- Access the personal information we hold about you.
- Correct information that is inaccurate, out of date, incomplete or misleading.
- Complain about how we have handled your personal information — first to us, and if you are not satisfied, to the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner (OAIC) at oaic.gov.au.
- Withdraw consent for non-essential cookies at any time via the cookie-settings link in the footer of the website.
- Opt out of receiving any direct communications we might send in response to your enquiry.
Requests can be submitted through the contact form on this website. We will respond within a reasonable time in accordance with APP 12 and APP 13.
Cookies
A detailed description of the cookies we set, their purposes, and how to manage them is available on our Cookies page.
Security
We apply commercially reasonable technical and organisational measures to protect personal information against unauthorised access, alteration, disclosure and destruction. No system connected to the internet is entirely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
Children
AussiePay’s subject matter is intended for adults aged 18 or over. We do not knowingly collect personal information from minors. If a parent or guardian becomes aware that a child has provided personal information to us, they can request its deletion via the contact form.
Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. The version currently in force is the one published on this page, dated at the top of the document.
